In our 9 Practical Business Marketing Tips You Can Apply Today series, we’re giving you one quality marketing tip every day for two weeks and showing you how to apply it step-by-step. Today, we’ll talk about tip #4, maximizing your social media growth.
What maximizes your social media growth?
Think of social media growth as part of an overarching strategy to help you achieve business goals like revenue and outreach. A social strategy should include social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn (among others).
To maximize your growth, there are several things to keep in mind.
The first is to take into account the peculiarities of each social media network you plan to use. Make sure to tailor your posts to the type of audience that you are reaching – your social media accounts should not be copies of each other. Instead, think of each platform as a different window into your organization.
Secondly, even though you are giving different glimpses into your company, your brand should be cohesive, so while you’re giving different looks into your organization, there should be consistent themes like color, tone, and aesthetic. Think of it this way: social media platforms are different windows into the same house, your organization!
Together, these things create an atmosphere for social media growth.
Why is maximizing social media growth a great marketing tip?
A customized social media strategy makes sure that your brand is reaching its potential customers where they already are: on Instagram, Facebook, etc. It gives you an opportunity to go to the customer instead of requiring that you go to them.
As you grow your audience on social media, you will have at your fingertips people who are interested in your product and who want to hear about what you offer. You will make connections with lots of people. It’s also an easy way to rack up reviews about your products or services – ask your followers to leave you a review on Google of Facebook. This is a quick way to build trust with new customers.
How can you apply today’s tip right now?
1. Think through a strategy
If you don’t have a social media strategy, the first thing to do is create one! This is less daunting than it seems. Don’t start with social media – start with your overarching company goals, and then work downwards to get an idea of how social media engagement might play a role in accomplishing them. 2. Analyze your current social media profiles
If your company has active social media accounts, pull up your most recent posts across several platforms. Analyze them for consistency, tone, and repetition. If everything is the same, then think about how you can tailor your content more specifically to each individual audience. If everything looks very different, think about the overall image you want your brand to project. Choose a few key elements – colors, fonts, short phrases – that you want each post to include and begin to focus on those.
If you don’t have any social media accounts, think through a strategy first. After that, begin to gather some images that resonate with your brand. They could be quality, visually-appealing photos of your products, but they can also be more abstract, like landscapes. Think about the overall mood you want to aim for and begin to create posts based on those images and ideas. It will be a work in progress as you learn what works for your brand – but you will make progress!
3. Invest in social automation
Social automation is a major time saver – but that’s not all it does. It opens up the door for valuable keyword research, letting you know which posts – and which phrases – strike a chord with your audience.
It also helps you remain consistent and post at peak times. If you need to take a week off, you can schedule out all of your posts in advance. Also, if you know your audience is most active at lunchtime, but you’re in another time zone or will be busy during that hour, you can set the post in advance to come out at prime viewing hours.
