4 Ways to be a Great Storyteller
- Set the scene: Readers like context. Set the scene to help your audience feel like they’re the ones facing the problem you’re addressing. Put them right in the story and make it relatable to their own journey.
- Use a story arc with a problem, journey, solution, and hero: Whether it’s a blog or social post, tell readers a story by presenting a problem, a journey to get to the right solution, and then identify a hero- either the readers themselves or a product or service you’re offering.
- Don’t be afraid to use emotion: Appealing to emotion over logic wins every time. As you write, don’t be afraid to address emotions like frustration, longing, and excitement to add depth to your writing and gain emotional investment from your audience.
- Tie the story into your overall brand story: your brand should tell you a story. And the piece of content you write today is a chapter in that bigger story. Stay true to your brand’s story and to the journey you want to take customers on in all the content that you write.
