In our 9 Practical Business Marketing Tips You Can Apply Today series, we’re giving you one quality marketing tip every day for two weeks and showing you how to apply it step-by-step. Today, we’ll talk about tip #8, improving SEO rankings for your site.
1. WHAT ARE SEO RANKINGS?
SEO (search engine optimization) rankings are a measure of your site’s visibility on major search engines like Google. Ideally, your site will show up on the first page of Google of people are searching for the services or products that you offer. Your rankings show you how high on Google your site usually lands when people input keywords that you are going after.
For example, if you sell pianos, you might aim for the keyword pianos for sale. You hope your website will show up on the first page of Google when someone types that in.
2. WHY IS IMPROVING SEO RANKINGS A GOOD MARKETING TIP?
Over 65% of search engine users will click on one of the first five results. This means that the better your SEO rankings, the higher the number of people landing on your website will be. In turn, this means you’ll be able to reach a greater audience and the greater the likelihood that you will reach future customers. Because of this, SEO rankings directly correlate with getting high-potential leads and are an essential component of a successful marketing strategy.
3. HOW CAN YOU APPLY THIS TIP TODAY?
1. Choose some keywords
Work backwards – what would a customer search to find you? For example, if you sell pianos, you’d want someone to find you when they search things like, “grand pianos for sale in [your location].” It’s a good idea to have a variety of keywords that are all related to your services. Keywords Everywhere is a great resource to give you an idea of similar phrases that people are searching.
2. Create content around those keywords
Content can be everything from blog posts to different pages describing your pages. Each keyword you’re aiming for should have an independent blog or page that’s specifically tailored to meet the needs of people searching for that keyword. Content doesn’t have to be overly elaborate, but it should be informative and helpful in addition to establishing your credibility about the topic.
3. Consider hiring an SEO expert
