Finding Semantic Keywords With ChatGPT

What are latent semantic keywords? Latent semantic keywords are keywords that are semantically related to the main keyword of a piece of content and help provide search engines with context and additional meaning. They’re necessary if you’re looking to do search engine optimization (SEO) on your website.

Introduction

Hello and welcome to another episode of Soulheart’s Search Engine Optimization Tips and Tricks podcast. My name is Tim Jennings and I’ve been doing SEO at Soulheart for over 8 years.

In this episode, I’m going to show you how to easily find semantic keywords to use in your content. If you don’t know what semantic keywords are or why they are important then I highly recommend that you go back to my previous episode entitled UNDERSTANDING ENTITY SEO KEYWORD RESEARCH. A basic summary though is semantic keywords help you fortify your entity’s SEO efforts. Long gone are the days of finding the keyword with the most searches per month and just using it over and over in your content. With the advancement of search engine algorithms like Google’s Rank Brain and Bert, it is important to use semantic keywords in order to rank your content now.

The Traditional Way To Find Semantic Keywords

You can find semantic keywords for your content in many different ways. The most common way that you can discover a variety of alternate phrases to use in your content is to do manually keyword research. Traditionally, you would start your keyword research by searching for the highest volume keywords on the subject of your content and then look for alternative phrases that have the same meaning as your keyword. Then you would Google that phrase and find the different terms associated with your keyword. So for example, if your content was about hoagie sandwiches then you would do your keyword research, find other terms for hoagie sandwiches like hero sandwiches, and then Google hoagie sandwiches to find other terms commonly used in the content such as meatballs, sausage, turkey, peppers, buns, etc. and then add that information to your research doc before writing your content.

What is ChatGPT?

As technology continues to advance, there are tools that make researching semantic keywords more quickly and with less effort. One of those tools is ChatGPT. ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence (AI) program that scans the internet and provides direct answers to your questions in a chat format. It has become very popular and Bing’s search engine has even begun integrating it into their search engine.

How to use ChatGPT to find latent semantic keywords

One of my favorite ways to use ChatGPT for SEO purposes is to find semantic keywords. ChatGPT allows you to find latent semantic keywords very quickly. To use ChatGPT to find these phrases you will want to go to https://chat.openai.com/ and start a new chat conversation. In the chat prompt you can ask the tool something like, “What are some latent semantic keywords associated with the keyword hoagie sandwiches?” When you do that, ChatGPT will provide you a list of terms in seconds that you can use in your content that will help search engines like Google better understand what your content is about.

Bonus ChatGPT tips to help with semantic keywords

Once you get your results you can simply enter the prompt “more” and the software will provide you with even more terms to use in your content. You can also take one of the semantic keywords that was provided and ask ChatGPT to provide you with latent semantic keywords associated with that term as well. If you do that a couple of times then you’ll get a list of terms to use that will greatly improve your content quality.
